Choosing a replacement battery for your car or truck can be confusing. With so many different brands and chemistries to choose from, It's tough determining which battery is right for your vehicle. In order to make things easier, we've highlighted the top four auto batteries available at Batteries Plus, along with a brief breakdown of their performance specs.
In order to determine the right battery for your needs, you'll want to consider a few factors first. Climate can have a big impact on a battery's life cycle and overall performance. If you live in an area prone to extreme cold, you'll want to select a battery with a higher number of cold cranking amps.
The next thing to think about is the amount of technology in your vehicle. Basic Applications such as windshield wipers, clocks, lights and alarm systems are all powered by your auto battery. A standard battery should provide enough power for things like that. If your car has a lot of advanced tech in your vehicle, such as driver assistance, navigation and start-stop systems, you might want to consider purchasing a battery with a higher reserve capacity.
The final thing to consider is a battery's chemistry. For gas-powered vehicles, there are two basic auto battery types: flooded and AGM. There are a number of differences between flooded and AGM batteries. Basically though, AGM batteries last longer, charge faster and do a better job of starting your vehicle in a greater variety of conditions and climates. They cost a bit more upfront, but due to their longer lifespans, most people save money with an AGM battery in the long run. One other thing to keep in mind, if your vehicle originally came with an AGM battery, you need to replace it with another AGM battery.
